We’re glad God brought you to us. Whether you’re just visiting and looking for a place to worship, you’re looking for a church home, or you’ve never attended church and are looking for a place to experience God’s love, we know you’ll find what you’re looking for at North Oaks.
North Oaks is a growing church family with people from all walks of life, united by one thing - the Bible. On an average Sunday morning you will find our parking lot and pews filled to the brim. But don’t worry. There is a special place for our visitors. You’ll have front row parking and our friendly ushers will be sure to find you a seat. Make sure you let one of our greeters know you’re new so they can get you an information packet and introduce you to our ministers and members. We have classes and Life Groups for all ages so you’re sure to find your niche.
What to Expect at a Sunday Worship Service
We recognize that it can be a bit intimidating coming into a church service for the very first time, so we thought it might be helpful to give you a bit of a “heads up” on what to expect. When you enter the building you will be greeted and handed an information bulletin. An usher will help you find a seat in the auditorium or, for classes, will help you find the right location. Complimentary coffee and donuts are available before Bible class every Sunday from 9:30am till 9:55am. From 10am to 11am Bible classes for all ages are available, tap or click here for more information. Before the worship begins you will see the current church announcements displayed on the screens throughout the building. Also there are various bulletin boards that display different North Oaks ministries. We hope these announcements will inspire you to get involved and stay a while.
As our worship begins, you will notice our music is somewhat different – it is a cappella (without instruments). We treasure this method of worship music because it encourages everyone to participate in the singing. The music is both traditional and contemporary in style. We do not expect you to know the words of all the songs, so we project the words on the screen at the front of the auditorium. If you prefer, we also have song books in every pew. The corresponding song number in the book is projected on the screen. If you don’t know the tune just listen and join in when you are ready. We usually begin our worship with songs of praise to God.
We partake of The Lord’s Supper every Sunday. This memorial supper was inaugurated by Jesus on the night of his betrayal (Matthew 26:26-28). It is observed by Christians in memory of the Lord’s death (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25). The unleavened bread and fruit of the vine symbolize the body and blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 10:16). If you are a believer in Jesus you are welcome to commune with us.
We also take a collection each Sunday to give the members an opportunity to support the many works of the North Oaks Church of Christ and all of our mission efforts. If you are a visitor, there is no expectation for you to give.
Coins for Christ and Children’s Worship
After communion we dismiss our children 3yrs old through 5th grade for Children’s Worship. During their dismissal the kids are given the opportunity to make a special contribution we call “Coins for Christ.” The kids drop their coins and small denomination bills into jars at the front of the auditorium while the congregation sings a children’s song. If your children feel comfortable they are welcome to participate. At children’s worship the kids will have a chance to learn bible stories geared toward their age group. Every Sunday we have a message from a Bible passage or topic, most often given by our pulpit minister. The intent of the message is to draw us closer to understanding and fellowshipping with God and to challenge us to live lives of faithful service in his kingdom. The lesson usually ends with an invitation for those who want to be baptized, place membership with the North Oaks church, or ask for the prayers of the church.
Some people have asked: What do I wear? At North Oaks you will be comfortable dressing casual to Sunday Dress-up. We provide a very comfortable setting that focuses on people and not appearance.
We think you will find the North Oaks Church of Christ to be a friendly and helpful group of people. You will not be embarrassed or singled out for any particular emphasis. We are excited to have you in our presence, to serve and worship with you and hope that you will desire to get involved and come back.
