North Oaks Church of Christ was established in 1960 in response to the rapidly growing Santa Clarita Valley. Elders from the Alexander Street Church of Christ in San Fernando recognized a need for a Church of Christ “mission” in SCV and promptly moved their families to the area.
In its infancy North Oaks rented out space on Sundays from another church but found certain limitations. The biggest limitation was not having a facility to call their own which affected their ability to serve and have an impact for God in the local community.
This new “Santa Clarita Valley” congregation spent their first three years planning where a more prominent Church of Christ could be located and when this might all come about. Fortunately, they stumbled across a new housing development centered around the intersection of Whites Canyon Road and Delight Street. The developer donated the land for the facility that we still use today. The housing development was called North Oaks which is where our church got its name. There was an ancient Oak Tree along the east side of the property which also reinforced this decision.
After much planning and generous donations of time and skill by many believers and non-believers, North Oaks Church of Christ was finally ready for services. The first Sunday in November of 1963 was the day our current building opened its doors. The building has expanded many times over the years to accommodate our growing congregation.
Over the last few years we have again been blessed with growth that warrants another expansion. The elders at North Oaks have established a Growth Committee who are charged with finding a new building and/or property to accommodate our growing membership and service needs. The congregation has also begun raising money for this endeavor. God truly has smiled on us over the years. We are so blessed and excited to see the plans God has made for our church. Come join our growing family and see how you can participate in the years to come.
